1870-80s English Victorian Fly Earrings, 18K Gold, $2450
Every time I show these in the shop I first apologize for their price. Probably not the best sales tactic.  And since I’m posting them here, I’ll apologize to you too. I paid a small fortune for these. But for good reason: they’re far and away the biggest and nicest Victorian fly earrings I’ve ever seen.  And high karat 19th century earrings of good design and quality have become incredibly scarce— and expensive.  So even though these are pushing $2.5K, I can tell you they’re still a good price.

This is a glittering extravaganza for a formal ball. The neoclassical motifs of the lace are interesting, particularly the laurel wreaths. The way the black lace is applied over the velvet bands to add a different texture and lighting effect, acts as a foil to the glitter of the paillettes.
